Workshop Purpose:

The purpose of this workshop is three-fold

Firstly to:

  • Connect with you (our MIP teachers)
  • Check-in on your well-being

Secondly

  • To provide you with an overview of the revised teaching plans for mathematics for 2020

Thirdly, teaching mathematical content

  • To assist you with information so that you may be able to improve your knowledge and teaching of the following Maths concepts:
    • Probability
    • Data Handling
    • Graphs

In this presentation Brené Brown’s speaks about the powerful emotions of vulnerability, empathy and shame. She argues that we need to be willing to “lean into our discomfort” in order to discover joy and a sense of belonging.

Brené quotes the stirring words said by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1910:
“It is not the critic who counts;
not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles,
or where the doer of deeds could have done them better.
The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena,
whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood;
who strives valiantly;
who errs,
who comes short again and again…
who at the best knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and
who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly.”
